70 LT1 - Power Steering?

Could you get power steering on a 70 LT1? Was this standard or an option? Or was it unavailable all together.

My car has all the equipment for power steering however I noticed on the car's original Order Form that it states "Power Assist Steering, Power N/A 370 or 460-hp engine N40".

Dave,

At the start of 1970 LT1 production power steering was not available with LT1. If you had the 460 some of us 1970 fans would be beating a path to your door. It was a nice idea that never made it into production. During the model year power steering became available with LT1 and the engine codes changed to reflect a different oil pan, and resulting oil capacity, to allow for the power steering ram.

If your engine assembly code is CTK power steering was available as an option. If the engine code is CTU, someone added power steering and made changes to the oil pan as well.

The TIM&JG has an approximate serial number and/or build date for that change, and if your engine is CTK and around those numbers and/o0r date we would appreciate an update to the data we have for the break point. Actually even if it is CTU if it is near that point it would help us update the manual. You can email me through this board if you do not wish to post that information "publicly."
