Do the nonpolished compontants such as alternator need to look like factory delivery for judging, and if so what's the best way to clean them? do you lose points if not cleaned? Do anybody know anyone in tampa,fl that readys a car for NCRS judging?

Re: detail engine compartment for judging 1996 C4 Collectors Edition
Detail shops often use chemicals or coatings to inhance the appearance of some surfaces. This can, and likely will lose you points in NCRS judging. As Ken said, gently clean. Be careful of the electronics in your engine compartment. They do not like water. If you had an earlier car I would suggest Simple Green or something like it to clean the surfaces, but rincing it off with water can be deliterious to your electronics. I have used simple Green and water at a 50/50 ratio in a squirt bottle from the hardware store. Another squirt bottle of plain water can remove the soap, and provide more direction and control of the water than a water hose. Again -- stay away from your electrical connections and electronic modules. At most a damp cloth or paper towel would be harmless I think. Be careful. Do not get overly aggreaaive. We like to see chalk and grease pencil markings.Terry- Top
