    Lifting the Car

    Hi all
Hope you all have had a good summer with plenty of driving

When you lifting your c1's ! is it then with open or closed doors? I have heard both but what is the best way to do it without destroying the Body on the car?

    Regards Jorn

In My opinion..... Never lift with the doors open! It could bend in the middle.

It should not matter if the doors are open or not , if the car flexes or bends you have a weak frame and need to adress that problem ASAP .

Are you talking about jacking the car up or lifting the body off the frame? If jacking it up are you lifting just a corner or the whole end of the car? When jacking the whole end of the car it should not matter unless frame is weak or body mounts are really bad. If lifying the body off leave the doors closed.

Jorn, if you are talking about removing the body from the frame, you need to support the ends of the body to keep it from bending in the middle. You can also install a brace where the doors are or use the doors themselves as the brace.

If you are talking about lifting the entire car on a lift or jacking up one side of the car, it does'nt matter. The minor flexing you get will not cause any damage. The frame/body flexes on the highway, and also if you park on uneven terrain and open a door. However, I can't think of many circumstance where you would want the doors open when the car is on a lift.

Jorn, read the responses to your question & agree with Paul. My C-1 has been with me for 52 years this month. My F.I. Vette has seen many Service Lifts & there have been numerous times when the doors had to be opened when in service. There has never been any problems with doors ect. during any of these procedures. It has been my personal policy to makes certain lifting points were used at all times. This car was designed to take above average operational punishment and still be totally functional. Good luck and Happy Vetting. Bill
