    Hi George,

The covers are an "attempt" to cover a set of 3 inch diameter aluminuzed tubes with STS baffles, all fed by a set of Stahl headers,.................... not the current design Stahl headers with sidepipes, but a very early set of his work. They are 2 inch primaries that feed into a 3 inch collector. That was as high as I could get them to fit under the covers. Jere Stahl is the king of headers.

      Rex,
Not quite as quiet at the factory set up, I'm sure. If you can post a sound file, I'd love to hear how they sound. An explanation would be fine, too.

Would love to George....................IF I knew how.

Engine is one of the new aluminum ZL-1 427s with a mild hydraulic roller cam with .580 lift, so it has a good idle sound to it. Wish I knew how to post a sound clip and / or a video.

So , one of the big areas we road racers spend money is tires. We use Goodyear 6.00X15 bias tires. A set is a little over $1000. We go through a set and a half in a typical weekend. I haven't talked to anyone that can tell you when a tire is used up. It's not a tread wear thing. Some say it the number of cycles. Some say its the durameter reading of the tire when hot, some say cold. Any thoughts from a tire engineer or someone with practical racing experience. Jerry

I think it's a combination of time at temperature and total cycles.

My experience running track events is that I know the tires (high performance summer and DOT legal racing types) are gone when the Cosworth Vega and '91 MR2 start oversteering. With "good" tires they are both dead neutral. Dealing with the oversteer is actually kind of fun on the short Streets of Willow Springs track, but lap times are off a couple of seconds on the 1:20s course.

It's a bit dicey on the big 2.5 mile course, especially Turn 8, which is a flat out 100+ MPH sweeper.
