    Dr. Color Chip's Nassau Blue

    Hello,

in order to complete the stress crack repair I ordered a color repair kit from drcolorchip.com. I know that the current "Nassau Blue" on my Corvette is not 100% the same shade as it should be and my expectation on the matching of the delivered paint wasn't that high. But when I compare it with the one in "Corvette paint color chips" I also notice a considerable difference - actually the sample in the booklet fits much better to the color on my car. According to a technician at Drcolorchip they use the Dupont color code and they haven't had any complaints from various users of this color. Hence, I'd like to know if anybody here has used Nassau Blue prescribed by the Doctor and if they were satisfied with the matching.
    Regards
    Oliver

Tried the dr.colorchip touch up for my 63's Daytona Blue and was underwhelmed by the lack of match. It's advertised as being the closest possible for metallics and these two experiences are unusual. Don't think I'll be going back.

I just can't believe that beautiful girl on TV could be mis-representing the product! It works on TV so you guys must be doing something wrong!
Just can't wait to waste my money on dr.colorchip touch up!
Wonder if a REAL Doctor developed this product!

        JR,

I even missed the beautiful girl - damn. The Doc was mentioned in the forum here for a similar problem as mine - a stress crack. Since I'm not sure if my fix will last for a longer period I wanted something that could be applied like the Doc - easily in layers with a brush without priming before and clear coat afterwards. The excess paint can be removed with their solvent, then polishing and hey, maybe the result is decent.
And: I wasn't aware that I could order Nassau Blue here in Germany (which is indeed possible) - so I was lucky to find a company in the US sending color to Europe.
Here in Germany there's only water-based paint available requiring clear coat. I've just ordered it and I'm excited to see how close this color comes to the paint on the car.
I could have opted for an optical examination to determine the exact paint formula - but that maybe step 3. A better approximation would be satisfying enough.
As mentioned the Doc uses Dupont color code to mix their stuff. So maybe contemporary Dupont ingredients result in a that different shade.
Additionally, I'm going to send pics and maybe the sample in Corvette Paint Code to the Doc. They claim that their stuff is different - it dries faster. At least they were helpful on the phone - though mails before weren't answered

          Oliver,

Jokes aside now, it would be nearly impossible for a company to match ANY and EVERY car color. As you point out there are at least a half dozen manufacturers of paint available between the US and Germany.
Since Nassau was used in several years and formulas do change it would be a shot in the dark!
The ad on TV shows the paint applied and rubbing just magically matches the color and blends it perfectly. Sure it covers the scratches and makes the car a 20 foot paint job. Standing 20 foot away it looks just fine!
          Just ain't gonna happen.
