Interesting quality control story. New C6 and Bowling Green.

    Here's a good one...................
I received a truck load of 427 convertibles last week. One car, a nightrace blue convertible seemed to have a voltage or a battery issue of some sort when it arrived. It clicked when the starter button was pressed. Just like they do when the battery is dead. The difference is this one would start after a few clicks. Strange. I thought perhaps it needed charged, so I placed it on the charger. While it was in the process of charging................. this is where it gets strange.
I get a phone call from the Bowling Green assembly plant. A friendly lady named Jenny confirmed that I had received this unit. She informed me that as she was reviewing check sheets at the plant and this exact car somehow did not get the ground nut tightened at the frame rail under the fuse box. I went and inspected the nut personally, and sure enough........ it was only finger tight. Tightened it up and no more "clicky". Amazing !!! Saved my service department a little time, I'm sure. Great service and amazing record keeping to know this happened. Thanks to Jenny and gang at the plant. Nice job !!!

The people at Bowling Green are super professionals, and the inspection and paperwork is so much different than the '60s, it's not even close. When I took delivery of my new ZR1 a few months ago, they had found out I was an NCRS member, so they saved every bit of plastic, tags, tickets, and anything else that accompanied the car while it was assembled. They said they knew as an NCRS member I would want to keep all that stuff for the future history and documentation of my precious car. They don't miss a thing.

They must have had a temporary glitch in the EVR (Electronic Vehicle Record) system and were doing manual followup on open items. Selected critical fasteners are torqued with sensor-equipped computerized DC electric nutrunners, and that tool uploads the torque it applied to that car's fastener to the EVR system computer, which checks it off that car's master record. If that car's master record shows that one of those fasteners wasn't torqued (or didn't reach specified torque), the EVR system puts an electronic "hold" on the car, electronically blocks the printing of the Vehicle Certification Label, the window sticker, the Car Shipper, and several other documents, which prevents the car from being shipped until that open item is cleared.

I noticed on my C-6 that 2 bolts were loose on the belt idler pulleys(belt separated at 1500 miles), seat "rocks", & a nice cowl leak when I wash the car. I know the seat problem has been unresolved since 1997. Fixed 2 of the 3 myself as dealers are clueless in Atlanta.

I thought we were discussing C-6's, and no Chevy tech has ever "fixed" seat rock. They just replace the tracks & it comes back in a few months.

Thanks a lot Clem for the info, that is just what I was looking for and I thought my 2001 was the only one with that problem. Birch
