Delco-Remy Ignition Coil and Bloomington Visit

At Bloomington swap meet, I purchased a "085" ignition coil, mainly because it has the retainers on the top like I need for a "091" coil and the smooth neck with no square shoulders. A vendor had a NOS "091" for sale for $500, but I passed on that deal!

I cannot find any information on what car or truck the "085" coil would have come out on. If it is compatible with my 1960 engine (283, 1x4) I will install it and see if it works. Can anyone help?

Two SJ4653 jacks were for sale, $900 and $1,250. They were still for sale late Friday afternoon. it is my opinion that the $1,250 is a couple of years behind on current pricing. Looks like I will be keeping my J.C. Whitney $20 scissor jack for now.

The number of swap meet vendors was not as large as I found in Kissimmee, but it was enough vendors to keep me looking for hours on Thursday and Friday.

Mecham did not have enough cars to have an auction on Friday and Saturday; scheduled one auction on Saturday.

Bloomington will be moving to University of IL campus in Champagne, IL next year. Only 5 minutes from a major interstate off-ramp.

That swap meet along with most of the other meets is toast. Right now Kissimmee is the bright star in the Corvette hobby. It is at a time where everyone wants to get out of the house, good location (for us on the Right Coast anywho), fairly inexpensive, etc. You can still find a few people cleaning out their garages and get some decent buys.

The majority of the rest of the meets have turned into bling swap meets. C-5 and C-6's abound, vendors selling exhaust, wheels, tires, chrome, etc. Look like Heckler's events. There was a time that swap meets were profitable for vendors but with the price of gas, exorbitant swap meet rentals, hassles by the various state revenue departments, advent of online stores, etc, the traditional swap meet is gone.

Did Mecum have any boats for sale??

HI Joe, The NOS 091 for only $500 was a good deal. I bet the seller didn't go home with it.

I noticed DW didn't mention Corvette Carlisle. Nothing like it in the world.
By the way Farmer DW this past Spring Carlisle was full house and reminded us of the old days.
      Nice hat. JD

I have used a 085 delco coil in my 61 for many years with good results. It may be from a 55 Chevrolet. If you tap a little dent in the 8 to make it look like a 9 and tap out the 5 covered by an epoxyed 1 it should look close to a 091 coil.
