Re: 69 Alternator on Ebay...
The thing that I can't figure out is where these re-stampers get their case halves. The 1969 and 1970 case halves, both drive end and split ring end, are, irrespective of "numbers" and "dates", quite rare. If someone is actually reproducing them, I'm unaware of it and, if they are, they are doing quite a good job. From what I can see, they look original. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 69 Alternator on Ebay...
So much for the mill, Delphi had thousands of castings at their plant that closed a few years ago and they all went to World Wide (REMY) in WV for reman use. We get alternators from them on a regular basis that are blank. If Dick or Joe want to go in the restamping business, then let me know & I'll see if they saved the stamping equipment. ~- Top

Unfortunately it is going to come to the day where the only way you can get certain alternators is to buy a restamp. The late John Pirkle told me that some cores have become absolutely impossible to find.Dick Whittington- Top

They may have a lot of castings but my guess would be that they're only the style of castings being used at about the time the plant closed. Some may even have been new castings for the series 10SI alternators used from 1969-82 but, once again, the style castings being produced relatively recently for new SERVICE alternators. These later style castings (actually, any style from the 1972 and later period) are very easy to find. It's the 1969-71 that are difficult. I seriously doubt that there are any of these castings to be found in any former Delco-Remy or DELPHI plant. In fact, I would question whether the molds and other tooling used to manufacture these early castings is even still extant. It seems unlikely to me that they would keep that kind of stuff around for 40 years. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I forgot to add there is a perfect set of stamps here on the East Coast. A Corvette owner got tired of hunting an alternator for his car, did his research, and had a set of roll stamps made. As far as I know he has only stamped the one alternator.Dick Whittington- Top
