    C1 (58 - 6o)chassis judge question

I'm trying to figure out if my 1960 should have the weatherstrip along the front of the hood. This is the one that seals between the hood and top of the radiator.

Nolan Adams' book says this piece was added 12-08-1959 approximately vin 1600. The TIM & JG says it was added in early 1959. My car is a November 59 build.

Per Nolan Adams, I would not have the weatherstrip, but if I read the TIM & JG correctly, it says I should.

Is there a chassis judge that can tell me which is correct for judMging.

    Thanks
    Don

Don, I am an expert but I did 58-60 chassis at the NC Regional last week. Personally since you are on the border I would note it but not take points. As they say, my $.02. Don H.

      Thanks,

I'm registered for Regional in Altoona if I can get my car ready. I think I'll leave it off for now. It's a lot easier to put it on than take it off.

Per the JG, it reads sometime in 59 which would lead me to believe that it part was added sometime during the 59 production. My 59 was a Nov 58 build and did not have one.

Pat, I agree with you that the JG seems to say it was added during 59 production. I sent an email to Tim Mickey, hopefully he will clarify. I know the JG seems to be clear, but I just wonder why Nolan Adams gave a very specific date that is in the 60 production timeframe.

            Donald -

Most likely Noland was referencing the date of the change in the revision block in the Assembly Manual, which was seldom the date a change was actually implemented on the line; that date is when the sheet was revised in the drafting room, not when the parts entered production. Seek clarification from Tim.

Donald, the Judging Guide is not specific on what "early 1959" means because there is no consensus on the date. As John stated above, the date the revision shows up in the AIM, does not mean that is the day it started on the line. Delay time from the time the decision is made to add it until it reaches the line and maybe delay getting the part on the line. My car was built in December 1959, 3rd week, and I installed the w/s and have never received a deduct.

I think I just found my answer. I had not even looked at the AIM, but just did. The forward "seal" shows up in Section 11-13 sheet 2.00. That page in the AIM actually has a revision date of 6/12/59. Of course as John said, the revision date does not indicate when the weatherstrip was actually put into production, but with that early a revision date, I think it is safe to assume it should be on my November 59 built 1960.

So I'll order the weatherstrip and install.

                Thanks,
                Don
