Would someone be able to identify the correct attachment screws for the center cluster above the console on a May '71 car.
Are they flat head black or oval head chrome?
Judging manual seems to not address this.
I appreciate any help
Steve, if you are asking about the screws that go into the side panels = Chrome. I believe on each side there is one of each flat head and oval head, but wait for Reba to put her two cents in. She has seen more early C3 interiors than most of us.
If you are asking about the two screws that go up into the wiper switch = Chrome and one is machine thread and the other is sheet metal screw. I believe there is also a head shape difference, but others will have to fill in those blanks. It has been too long since I have had that cursed part of the car apart.
If you are talking about the two on each side that connect the cluster to the dash pads, they are all chrome oval-head. I think originals used shorter ones at the bottom so they would not push through the dash material. Most, if not all, repros are the same length. Just be careful that one doesn't puncture the vinyl.
We just finished revising the 1968-69 JG and clarified this section in it. I found it hard to believe that we omitted the description from the last 1970-72 revision but we did, and I worked on it.
To clarify what Terry says about the wiper area: The chrome one faces upward and is mostly hidden from view. The two that show across the front are pan head black. (I think that the finish is black oxide but someone else may comment here.)
