    NCRS National Convention Outdoors?

Over a month ago, my '65 Coupe was accepted for Flight-judging at the July NCRS (San Diego) meet.

Today, I received another e-mail from Roy Sinor with specifics about the upcoming national judging meet. His message requested that all covers be removed from the cars every morning. Does this mean that all the cars being Flight-judged will be outside the entire time?

You are reading way to much in Roy's message. The Judging Reference Manual requires cars to be uncovered every day, whether they are to be judged or not. This is so those wanting to view the cars can do so. It has nothing to do with whether the meet is indoors or outdoors. Some folks prefer to cover their car overnight even when indoors.

Doesn't answer the question. Are the cars expected to be left out all night?

I believe it is INDOORS. But San Diego has the best weather in the USA. 75 degrees daytime, 68 degrees nighttime, 12 months out of the year. Some people say it is ''boring''

Judging is indoors. The cars will be staged outdoors Saturday night, June 30th so that operations checks can be performed the next morning before the cars go into the exhibit hall.

          Hope this helps

I'm really glad you cleared that up! I would not want any dew to get on my base coat/clear coat paint! The paint is not guaranteed to be color fast in the wet San Diego weather.

Exactly, Cathy. I know the reason for uncovering the cars. I was just wanting to wrap my mind around whether my car will be exposed to any weather for the duration of the national meet. -Clark

And John Tidwell's response didn't work for you?

A lot of us could have guessed at the answer, but someone associated with the host committee, like John, had the authoritative answer.

Clark, most cars spent at least few nights exposed to rain, snow, sleet and a bunch of other things on their way to the selling dealer from St Louis. Just claim that the fallout from the Southern California smog is actually soot (from the steam engine that transported your car from St Louis) that you saved and carefully redeposited onto your nice fresh pseudo-lacquer clear coat.

John's answer works for me, I never stated otherwise. There is no reason to bristle at my honest question or my honest request for clarification. I had responded to Cathy's reply (she stated that your first post did not answer my question). You asked me not to read too much into the Roy Sinor's e-mail about uncovering the cars. OK, but my question remained unanswered until John chimed in.

If John is an official at the 2012 NCRS national convention, then he should know, but I don't know who he is. I simply asked a question so that I can be better prepared when I arrive at my very first NCRS National Flight judging meet. I will try to answer your future questions better than I received from you.

No bristles here Clark. I had no intention of attempting to answer your question with respect to the details of this year's National Convention because, as I said, I could make a guess but I can not speak with authority since I have no official standing for this year's event. When I arrive at the Town & Country I will be there for the first time in my life. In the past I have attempted to answer similar meet details only to find my experience at other past events doesn't apply to future events. So I have learned the hard way not to speculate about what I don't know.

While the background reasons for the request to uncover cars may be known to you and Cathy and perhaps to everyone who posted here, there are 413 views at this time. I post for the benefit of everyone who views this thread -- even into the future. There is no need to be critical of my attempts to educate those who might desire that help -- even if that is not you. Perhaps I was overstepping boundaries by offering information not solicited, but I did so with the best of intentions -- so all I can do is beg forgiveness.

I do know John Tidwell -- we are brothers of another mother. And just to clarify: that is an "inside" joke that John and those who know both of us will appreciate. You would need a photograph of the two of us to fully understand that joke.

I mentioned that he is involved with organizing this years National precisely so that those who do not know who he is will have the benefit of knowing that he can speak with some authority on the details of the coming convention. John is far too modest to post his bona fides, so I did it for him.

                      Peace out.

                        Re: NCRS National Convention Outdoors?

Guys its 9:07 I just decided to check the discussion board, something I seldom have time to do during preparation for the convention, so I apologize for a 12 hour later response. John Tidwell is in charge of all staging and parking at the San Diego Convention, he is correct in his comment. To elaborate a little all judged cars with the exception of Founders, all NCRS previous award recipient display cars and all Year of Cars that requested inside display will be inside. Those vehicles that require an operations check will be staged outside overnight for that purpose - the operations check will be Sunday morning. Those cars will then be moved inside for the duration of the event. All other "Year of" and "Sportsman display" vehicles will have underground parking. John Tidwell can elaborate if this is not the case.
