    C2 vent glass code

My '64 convertible has a replacement ("Safety Float") vent window on the driver's side. I want to replace it with a Safety Plate vent glass having the correct date code. I'm stuck on whether the vent glass is tinted or clear. The original invoice says "Tinted Windshield" but does not show the option code A02 (or any option codes). The passenger vent glass, that I believe is original, has "AS2" and the date code "CA" (correct for my car) etched in the glass.

Does the "AS2" indicate anything about the tint? Is there any way to tell if vent glass is tinted aside from trying to see the tint?

    Thanks-Doug

AS2 has to do with the clairity of the glass and nothing to do with the date or color. All side wiondows are stamped AS2.

      Doug,

If the passenger vent glass that you believe is original was tinted, it will say "SOFT-RAY" above the "LOF" logo.

Your tinted windshield should also have "SOFT-RAY" above the "LOF" logo, with "SHADED" above "SOFT-RAY".

        Doug -

What's on your driver side window and the passenger side window and vent window? All four pieces of side glass match (tinted vs. clear), whether they're "Safety Plate" (clear) or "Soft-Ray (tinted)".

          Re: C2 vent glass code

          Hi Bob, Scott and John,
The passenger door and vent are both AC (September '63) The driver door is YC (October '63) The car is December 13, '63 build-date.

All of the side glass is "Safety Plate" except the "Safety Float" driver vent. The windshield is "Soft Ray", so all of this seems to agree with the "Tinted Windshield" (apparently the A02 option) notation on the original invoice. I found a left vent, Safety Plate, AS2 CC clear glass that I'm going to buy.

          Thanks for all your help.

The "AS-2" is an American Standard glass classification.
"AS-2" = Laminated or tempered glass, side/rear only
"AS-1" = Laminated glass, windshield only
