Alternator - part No / Date Code

I have a late '96 LT1 convertible - low mileage (21k) with an altenator with no codes visable. What deductions should I expect at my next show? Points alloted are 15/10 - so should it be full 25 for originality and condition? Or less?

When I was showing my '67 on the late 80's, there were a number of vendors selling remanufactured alternators, starters, etc with proper codes and dates to help us out. Are there current sources for a 'proper' alternator fr my '96 to replace what appears to be a replacement? If so, where do I look?

My 1-owner, late 96 LT4's known original alternator has no codes. It would be interesting to hear of other known originals without codes.

The 1994-1996 Judging Guide (page 152) has a blank for the alternator part number for the 1996 LT4, so that would be right for your car, but not necessarily for the LT1. Maybe they were out of stock for my car and used an LT4 alternator - last two weeks of production and a model change facing them?

I saw that, but should the LT4 have a date code? The manual doesn't seem to indicate one way or another.

Pat, have you looked on the under side of the alternator arm (directly beneath where the part number is on the LT1 alternator). I used a mirror and could see characters, but could not get an angle to actually read it. I'll pull the alternator soon and will let you knw what I find.

Jim, it's a tight space, and I can't see all of it even with a mirror. But I don't see anything there. If you find something let us know.
