1963 coupe apparently had a single malfunction during Performance Verification, and attempted to rectify within the 15 minutes allowed. Not successful .
Monza red low mile '69 was used for the C3 judging school, with two experienced judges; Chuck Berge and Terry McManmon.
They fixed the door and made it to the road test where another gremlin reared its head and moved them to the fail category. The hinge repair was a very impressive attempt in my mind and I’ve been around these tests for a few years now.
I applaud the attempt, the demeanor, the attitude and the professionalism this crew showed in this process.
That would have been a good task to put on film. I don't think I could even get the door removed in 15 minutes let alone repair the hinge pins! Even with two others to help that was a major accomplishment. Think of it the door handles, all the screws securing the door panel, and all twelve bolts holding the door to the hinge have to come off. Maybe even have to remove the hinges which requires the foot well panel to come off. Fix the sloppy hinge or hinges. The top hinge is a bear with the full dash in place. Then reverse the procedure plus align the door, (with shims if any) so door operation is good. I would have just said "we are done". My hat is off to those guys.
I was watching from a distance, and admiring their skill. They didn't remove either the door panel or hinge bolts. They simply knocked the hinge pins out. Thus no re-adjustment of the door and so on. Still a formidable task in my eyes.

Wow, they pulled the door off the car, fixed it and got it back on? Amazing......

That is if the pins have never been out before. After they have been out a time or two it becomes substantially easier to remove them. The Orange Suburban had a lot of door off/on. Lack of power windows makes it a lot easier also. But I would still think long and hard before trying to remove the doors from my Corvette.

When we were doing restorations, we made a dolly to handle door off/on so that we did not have to readjust the hinges every time.
