    Hardtop Project-Lesson learned 2

    John, Gary and Rob,

As a very experienced user of this forum, I'd like to report a problem with posting photos and losing posts on preview.

I just spent an hour doing an informative post, uploaded 4 photos. Then I hit "preview" the post was gone. And even though the system told me it was "AutoSaved". BS

I have found that with this new system is completely "user unfriendly". Not like the last two systems, when you could import a photo right into the text of your post. I don't think you can do that now.

I have noticed that there really is a lack of photo posting on the forum, and perhaps due to the same difficulties I am having.

Let's take a look at this.

    Sorry guys,

This post was intended to go to the Help Forum after I lost a nice post on my hardtop project. This new system is BS.

      Jerry,

This is the second time I have tried to reply to this thread!!! First time it disappeared into cyberspace! The number of posters helping other members has decreased. At least the low numbers are not showing up like they have in the past. That's bad!!!!

Wish I could have seen your post on the Hardtop Project as there is one in my future. I just hate to fool with hardtops so I need all the pointers I can get.

i have noticed that when i go to "manage attachments" it only goes to attachments i have already posted on the site. i have to go thru more steps to get pictures that are stored on my computer if i want to post a picture.

          Clem -

That's correct - the system only knows what you've uploaded before, and shows them when you click on "Manage Attachments"; if you want to upload a photo you haven't uploaded before, then you have to go through the "add files/select files/upload files" routine, then "insert inline/done". I do it all the time, but I never use the "Preview" button, for fear of losing the post.

You can still import images from a hosting site so they show up full-size in your post just like you could before; that process hasn't changed. I haven't done that recently, as the thousands of images I had stored on Village Photos over the years disappeared late last year when they shut down and headed for the Cayman Islands with all their subscribers' money.

this is the only site that i use that only goes to what you have all ready posted before when you click "manage attachments" to post pictures instead of going to all my pictures in my computer

John, did you have back-up of your photos?

Jerry, since this new and improved Forum was introduced, I hardly visit here anymore. It's just not worth the aggravation. It's way more complicated than it needs to be and very difficult to navigate. Something tells me it has to do with adding Facebook. Gotta have that you know! Where's the smilies? What was wrong with the last forum, it was so easy to use. I'm editing this post now and have to go through about 4 steps as opposed to 1 step on the previous forum and I can't preview this edit???

I have not posted a picture to this forum since it changed. The previous system was much easer to upload pictures in my opinion. I say lose facebook and make a simple system to post photos like we had before.

Absolutely! I wouldn't DREAM of hosting images anywhere that weren't already on my computer and on my backup/archive drives (I have over 20,000 images archived). Anyone who uploads images to a hosting site that could go belly-up tomorrow without having the originals archived locally could lose them all (and many folks did).
