Early or late modell year C2?

When looking at parts there is parts for early and late 1964 Corvette. Is my fifth of December 1963(D5 tag)an early or late car?I suppose this goes for all C2 Corvettes if there is any change of parts during the modell year

"Early" and "late" usually refer to specific running changes made on the assembly line. As an example, if a change was made in November, cars assembled before November would be early; cars assembled after the change in November (like your car), would be considered late.

I thought that i had a early 1964 Corvette so thanks for helping me out here I suppose that explains why the car does not have raised pads on the doors

Claus, you should have the raised pads, they continued into April or May 64.

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

A few other things to look for; the sill plates 4 or 6 hole - look underneath to verify you only have one set of holes 4 or 6, 4 is early
the added frame support near rear wheel end, support is added around April

Dan. No i do not have the raised door pads.
but i read that they was used all of the year. Sometimes you could have one door with a raised pad and the other door without the raised pad
Well, thats what i have read but if it is the case i do not know

Alan. I am pretty sure that i have sill plates with 6 holes

Great to know that cars assembled after the change in November, would be considered late 1964 Corvettes

Claus, Nov 63 would be an 'early' 64 configuration. It should typically have the 4 hole step plates, raised door handle pads with early door handles. The part number for the door handles changed from 63 sometime in very late 64 which would indicate a change in the raised pad doors. The replacement step plates would have been 6 hole for a 64. My March 19, 64 Coupe has the 4 hole plates and raised pads on the doors using the 63 style handles. I would not classify your 64 as 'late' in it's trim parts.

To add a little support to Dan's stuff, mine is a March 23 (tag date) convertible -
4 holes, raised door handles with early handles, no rear gusts (added frame support near rear wheel end)
From what I've seen from original cars most of these changes did not happen till April 64.

The 6 hole sill plate was GM's over the counter part, NOS These always got marked up so many a owner replaced them back then. Pull the sill and see if you have a 4 & 6 hole setup drilled in the fiber glass below.

I would guess if your car is a pre March then the mentioned items will bring you a deduct of some form.
