    72 LT1 Holley date code question

    Hi, new to NCRS, great organization and impressive knowledge source!!

    I got a 72 LT1 and believe the engine, 4sp, and rear are original. I thought the Holley carb was original, but now not sure, any feedback is welcome.

    72 LT1 vin #5202xx
    Trim tag J02, (May 02)
    Holley
    3999263-GA
    List 6239-1
    1574 (1971, May and 74 week of the month????)

    Any insights would be appreciated! Thanks. Maybe "period correct" as they say? LOL's!

        Pat,

        We cover Holley date codes in the TIM&JG (Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide.

        Up through 1972 Corvette production Holley date codes are:

        year number][month character][week number

        year number = last number of the year (1970=0, 1971=1. 1972=2)
        Month character =
        1 = January
        2= February
        3 = March
        4= April
        5= May
        6 = June
        7= July
        8 = August
        9 = September
        0 = Octiber
        1 = November
        B = December

        Week number = 1 through 5

        Get yourself a copy of the 1970-72 TIM&JG from the NCRS Store on the radio button above. It will give you more reading time than you have had in a while.

          Much Thanks for all of the feedback. It is quite helpful.

          I got the NCRS 70-72 judging manual recently and reading through it. The List 1574 threw me off as I first thought ok, 1971, May, but what is the "74"? does not look like a week???

          By the way, my hat is off to the compilers of the 70-72 book, tremendous amount of effort to research and document all of the information.

            Thanks Pat, but many of us -- some who have passed -- have worked on the TIM&JG. That one has been underway for almost three decades -- we started in 1985.

            I forgot to mention that after 1972 the dates on Holleys were:
            Julian Date = 001 through 365 (or 366)
            year = last digit of the year. (3 = 1973 or 1983. 4 = 1974 or 1984) and so on. I really don't know how long Holley continued to make replacement carburetors so the dates could also be in the 9th decade I suppose. We didn't put this new system in the TIM&JG because any date code using a Julian system would be an non-factory installed unit, so the actual date of it is not important to the judges.
