Those that see a lot of serial numbers please comment on this serial plate and possibly on the engine stamping. This car is for sale where I live and I almost bought it 5 years ago but it was buried in a garage. The owner finally put it for sale in front of a local business. It is a lot worst off than I remembered it and had not seen this serial plate. The owner is an honest guy and he bought the car approx 10 years ago in Fla basically like you see it. This is a 64 Coupe with factory air 327/300 4 speed. Dist tag matches and that is the correct serial for the car I assume. Thanks, Mike

Two more pictures. I am assuming that the code is an RQ but it looks like RO but the block is chipped right there. Mike- Top

Re: Opinions On Serial Plate and Engine Stamping
Replacement VIN tag, totally unoriginal. As for the block, hard to tell with paint on the pad. If interested would want to know "wat's up" with the VIN tag.- Top

Re: Opinions On Serial Plate and Engine Stamping
I remember a Restorer article about a car where the owner of a theft recovery got a replacement VIN tag from GM that looked a lot like this one including the correct rosette rivets....i think it was the guy who wrote the book Corvette Odyssey.- Top

Re: Opinions On Serial Plate and Engine Stamping
The VIN tag should be shorter and welded to the ground off areas of the Z brace. The numbering font and spacing is incorrect and the wording is missing. The tag should also unpainted.
What's the stamped number on the kickup say?Last edited by Paul J.; April 24, 2012, 10:21 AM.- Top

Re: Opinions On Serial Plate and Engine Stamping
I think we all agree it is a replacement SN tag but the question is it a state replaced tag or did Bubba just put one on.65 350 TI CONV 67 J56 435 CONV,67,390/AIR CONV,70 454/air CONV,

Re: Opinions On Serial Plate and Engine Stamping
Hi Kenneth, The number change was done in Florida I assume. It now has a North Carolina title and has for the last 10 or so years. The Doctor has a home in North Carolina and Florida. What ever happened was before he bought it. I agree that there should be some documentation of the change. Should be Fla. As North Carolina usually issues and totally different number and it is placed in the door jam. I just had my car titled here in NC where I live and an inspector with the highway patrol had in come and take pictures of my plates and it took about 60 days for the title to come in. I had bought the car ten years before I applied for the title. The doctor already has a North Carolina title for the 64 that I took pictures of. I was shocked when I saw the serial plate. Thats the reason I posted it. Mike- Top
