I'm back again seeking help. My initial issue with the wipers on my 72' is that they will not shut off. With the dash switch in the off position, ignition OFF, the wiper motor will still run. I have to use the manual knob under the steering wheel, to stop the running wiper motor. I bought a replacement wiper motor at the swap meet Sunday, put it on the car, still have the same issue. Could it be simply the dash switch is bad ? Any ideas are welcome. Thanks Phil

Re: 1972 wiper motor problem ?
Sounds like a dead short somewhere in the wiring harness from the switch to the motor. Check to make sure the wiring at the motor is attached correctly. If it is, track it backwards to the firewall grommet then under the dash. You may have a chaffed or cracked section of insulation that is contacting metal. I'm sure you have thought of this, but who knows. Also check the switch with an ohm meter to make sure there is no short in it or the relay.Kurt Geis

Re: 1972 wiper motor problem ?
Phil, the wiper motor running continuely sounds like the wiring to ground side of the wiper motor is hitting metal somewhere( found its own ground), since the power side is working ok(motor runs), the wiper switch sends a ground path to the motor for low speed operation or high speed operation, So start at the motor and work your way back to the switch.if not a wiring problem you may want to test the switch, but really is not much to them, it would basicly have to fall apart internally.Last edited by Edward J.; April 18, 2012, 08:24 PM.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top
