    Keith,

Great news! I too was bit by the restoration battery thing long time ago. That was it for me, now it a Walmart just like you have and if you remove the labels it's all black in color and a 36 month non pro rated warrantee.

When I tested any batteries at work we first removed them to clean terminals and full charge. After that they were tested by appling a load and if bad the volts would drop right down. The key thing is they were fully charged first.

I did keep my DC-12 case as I have been informed it's original but I am not sure I will ever rebuild it. I am curious why you wanted a high torque starter when the stock set up from GM used standard torque.

I guess it's all in the luck of the buyer. My first "wet" Restoration Battery lasted about 11 years, 6 of those here in Florida. Even then, it may have gone longer had it not been for my son letting the water run low in the battery. He had the car by him for about a month and I cautioned him to check it as a matter of standard practice before start up (after sitting). He didn't. I had always used a Restoration Battery Minder on it and he chose not to use that either -so, here in sunny and hot Florida it failed. He bought me a new "dry" Restoration Battery to replace it and it continues to work fine some 2 years now. I changed it out myself and believe me the ease of handling such a light battery in that process is a god send on my 63. I continue to use my Battery Minder on it and it fires perfectly every time, and it is completely maintenance free. Also, I used to have to prime mine after it sat for a week or more, but now that I'm back using non-ethanol gas it fires after a few seconds and one pump on the peddle - just like the old days.

I'm glad everything worked out for you Keith, I know how it feels to have your mid-year running like it's supposed to. Sometimes you have to say "dam the points!", I want to Drive!!

        Keith,

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. This was a fun thread with lots of interesting ideas and brainstorming.

So now that the car is running, I suppose my offer to give your car a good home with two other blue Corvettes is no longer an option.........

Tim: Thanks for all your help. With regard to HD starter , it is my org Delco Remy date coded but like many BB owners I had huge heat soak issues when the car was hot when trying to re-start the car. I sent it to John Pirkle and he changed the field coils and worked his magic and up until recently when it got all gummed up around the case and was rubbing along one of the field coils it worked great. So outside it looks orginal but internally it was modified for the heat soak issue.

Thomas: Sorry I have to keep the 1966 now, it looks and sounds so good and those lines............they just dont make em like that anymore
