I screwed up and left my 89' outside and with the hood open. It was nice and sunny when I left home. Well....the bottom fell out all night and I didn't even think about the car until I saw it the next day. Surely this couldn't be a big deal, right? WRONG! The battery is strong, I had the altenator tested, and I checked the battery cables and the obvious stuff. Well, the engine won't crank. No big deal, obviously something got wet. Here is where I am stomped and I mean REALLY stomped!! When I turn the ignition in the on position, the digital dash goes nuts! For example: different bars in the (bar graph) tach. and speedo. gauge start blinking non stop. The fuel tank is half full which is indicated on the fuel gauge but the reserve light is blinking, the left front and right rear Bose speakers are the only speakers that are working. I checked and rechecked all of the fuses. I refuse to take it to a dealership and let them charge me $90-100 an hour. Who knows what that would add up to. So, anyone want to take a jab at this, I'm all ears. Thanks!

At the risk of sounding stupid; where are you? Is it still humid (florida etc.). I'd be going over everything with a hair dryer and (carefully) trying to dry out/ displace any trapped water.

Do the dash lights stop blinking when you turn the switch to start?
Does the starter solenoid click?- Top

Justin, I agree with the others that you're not getting enough voltage. This is either a weak battery or you have an open seal somewhere in the electrical system. After checking the battery (and remember to check the amps, not just the voltage), I would start at the battery and work my way back through the wiring harness paying particular attention to the connections at the fuse box, computer, and any relays. A hair dryer or heat gun might help, but I would take each weatherpak connector loose and blow air into it, first checking to see if it's damp. Check to see if you have power after checking each connector, that way you'll know where the problem is. But as I said before, check the battery first.

Re: 1989 Corvette , I need an EXORCIST!
Just had the battery (Interstate) checked at O'Reiley's Auto Parts and it tested very good. I was hoping that it was bad...as wierd as that sounds. So, I guess that means that I will have to wait for some things to start drying out :-(....I don't really drive it much but it's always nice to have one less project. Anyone have any suggestions on where to begin? I sure do like the simplicity of my old 58'.- Top
