Recommendation on Alignment Shop in Tidewater VA area
Recommendation on Alignment Shop in Tidewater VA area
Can anyone recommend a good alignment shop in the Tidewater (Hampton, Norfolk) VA area? I just rebuilt my rear suspension and I hate the thought of just taking it anywhere and having it banged up let alone not properly aligned.
Thanks.

Jack, if you don't get a good response on this forum, why not call ZIP (they are in Mechanicsville), or Virginia Vette (they are in Williamsburg). I suspect neither of they do alignments, but since they deal in parts and services for these older vettes, I would think they know of someone to recommend.
I have the same problem when I get my 1960 together. I rebuild the chassis myself and would feel better about taking it to someone I could trust that knows how to align a C1.

If you care...I suggest that you get some of the proper alignment shims before taking the car to the alignment shop. I had my 69 aligned a few months ago when I put new tires on. They used modern shims. I lost points for them during judging. I dont see the use of replacing the shims and aligning the car again, so it will sit like this until it needs to be aligned again. Gary

There is a good place around the corner from Zip's that has done lots of C2 & C3 rears. They did my 1966 this past Spring. They charge by the hour because you never know what you are going to find. Examples are rusted bolts in trailing arms or chamber adjusters, shims with holes only, bent strut rods. etc. One suggestion is to make sure you have slotted shims in the trailing arms before you take it anywhere. The cost will be almost double if you don't, as the labor is almost doubled to work on them with hole type shims . Once it's aligned, you can change them to the hole type (if thats what correct for your car) by just counting and measuring the thickness on the slotted shims and installing the hole type yourself.

I did call Virginia Vette and, surprisingly, he had no suggestion other than a generic such-and-such can do 4 wheel alignment. Did not think of Zip though so I'll give them a call. Thanks.
