Might have him check for rear end accident damage. Whenever I see a '66 without back-up lights I immediately think about an accident and in the repair someone was too lazy to source the correct parts. I know I'm not answering your question and for that I apologize but sometimes we miss the obvious and later regret not having looked closer. At 60K my money would look for a car with no accident repairs but sometimes I wonder how many are left that have never been hit. Just my two (or maybe 1 1/2) cents. Course there could be other reasons for the incorrect rear lights.
