    63 Carpet convertible question

Is there a chrome screw that secures the carpet to the rear quarter trim panels at the lower corner? There is a hole drilled about 1/8 DIA. on each trim panel. Thanks for your responses. Ed

Ed, as far as I know, in 63 that little flap of carpet was glued to the bottom of the trim panel. I believe the screw was introduced in 64.

    Hopefully others will chine in.

        Edward,

This has been discussed in the archives but I can't remember what is correct for 1963, there are pictures of the screw used in later mid-years. All this does not explain why there are holes in your 1963 quarter trim does it??

It seems like the screw is used on all 63-67 convertibles, post some pics of the holes and maybe other 63 owners will post some info..

Tim,I believe that I read a post about the screw quite a while ago , I was looking in the archives for something, and it was about the type of screws used to secure the trim panel. I did look in the JM and states 64 the screw was used, as Harry stated., I have installed my carpets in my 63 and there is no way I could tell as the carpets were replaced once. I have not mastered the photo posting yet and will learn soon. The hole drilled in the panels were diffinity there in the panels , By whom, your guess is as good as mine. I guess we need someone like Mike Garver to post who may have a set of original carpets in one of his 63's.

              Ken,

We are talking about the small screw that's used to hold the carpet to the quarter trim. I guess this was used to help hold things together until the glue set.

Do you recall if your 63 had small holes at the bottom for these small screws?

All 63 and most 64 do NOT have the screw. The change seemed to happen around April 1964. My March 64 car does not have the holes in the panel. Remember the yellow glue on the carpet to hold it up!

My July build 63 does not have such a screw nor any provision for one although I can see where it would be useful. The glue on my still original carpet gave up the ghost many years ago, and those corners of my carpet are flapping in the breeze (so to speaK).
