    C2 AC vent door repair

Re 66 passenger side AC vent door

Thought I'd tackle new rubber seal on my pass side vent door but I am stumped on how to remove the door.

I did the driver's side last year and the door is hinged in the center with 2 long pins and I was expecting the same construction on the pass side.

It does not seem to be the same as the drivers side. I could not see or feel a hinge/pin in the center of the door and it is definitely hinged on the rear side. It also does not look like a rubber seal sandwiched between 2 metal halves like the drive'sr side.

I looked thru the LICS catalog hoping to find a picture of the RH AC vent door but there doesn't seem to be one. Looks like the doors are same for AC or not.

The 2 screws holding the cable bracket do not seem to be connected to the door.

Do I have a "Bubba Door"?
    Any tips for removal?

    Randy

The door you refer to is the vent door, not AC vent. Cars with factory air conditioning do not have a passenger side air vent - that air goes through the AC unit. Good luck, Don H.

It's been a while since I did mine, but I recall glueing the seal in place without doing any disassembly of that plenum unit (which comes out from the engine side of the firewall). Yours looks identical to my '65 piece.

randy -- your pics look OK to me, even though I've never (tried to) removed the RH kickpad C60 door..

Here's a few eBay pics (might have been John Meissinger's eBay auction -- went for $865). Several views seem to indicate the hinge on the door is at the rear edge. Doesn't give a clue on how to remove door, though.

          Don

You are correct. I should have refered to it as the vent door on an AC car. I see now the Chassis Service manual refers to it as the "air door". Section 1A Fig 35.

Per Mike below, I guess it is factory and not removeable from the interior of the car.

            Randy,

Here are some close ups of the vent door hinge.

I don't see how the door can come off while the vent is attached to the body. Actually , I don't see how it can come off and be put back together correctly even when off the body.
I post these pics so you , or others smatter than I, may be able to fiqure it out .

            Good luck ,

            Jim

              Randy,

Here are some pics of how I rebuilt and replaced the seals on mine . The front seal can easily , or relatively so , be replaced while in the car . The back part of the door will be more of a challenge. So I have enclosed a picture of it so you can at least see what it looks like , and how the seal was placed originally

              Hope these help,

              Jim

                To all,

Thanks for the responses especially the pictures. I started this project because I thought I had the gasket for the passenger door but this is obviously not the case. It is interesting to see the special features required for AC cars.
