I would like to change out my coil on my choke. I bought a new one that comes complete with the base, problem is my old bass screw is so rusty that I cant get it off. Is there any way to just change out the coil spring out on the old base and but the new one on it? Are will I need to drill out that screw?

I know of no way to separate the coil from the stove without destroying it. This style choke with integral stove is always serviced as an assembly. You'll need to get the screw out one way or another. I'd trying heating the boss the screw threads into with a torch. Get it as hot as you can with a MAPP gas torch and then see if you can turn the screw out.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

The usually last a long time. However, it's easy to test their operation. With the engine cold and the choke rod properly adjusted, the choke cam on the appropriate step, and the choke valve on the carburetor at the proper closed position (all specs in service manual), the choke coil should be at "full deflection".
With the engine at operating temperature, the choke coil should cause the choke valve to be fully open.
If it does the above, it's OK.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
