    69 L36 Carburetor Base Plate

I found a numbers/date correct Q-Jet 7029215 EH carburetor and sent it out to be restored. The shop said that the base plate is for a small block and it needs to be replaced. I have attached some pics of the base plate that is currently on the car and supporting the current service replacement Q-Jet. I am wondering if this base plate is possibly the original (and correct) plate that came with the car?

The first two pics show casting markings on the rearward attaching ears. The second two pics show the jet adjusting screws on the front of the base plate. Does this look like a small block or big block base plate?

Also, are the base plates date coded? If so, how?

Thanx, and Happy New Year to all!

There was a difference between the THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY ("base plate") used for 1969 small block and big block Q-Jet applications. However, while I don't know what the difference was I highly doubt it would be identified by any of the features you have pictured. It did not involve any difference in the throttle bore size as this was the same for both small block and big block applications. I strongly suspect it was a subtle difference. Why don't you ask the rebuilder who says you have a small block throttle body assembly? Since he says there's a discernable difference, he should know what it is. I'd be interested to know what he says.

The original throttle body assembly for the GM #7029215 carburetor was GM #7036569. However, this number will not be found anywhere on the part. It will only be found on a box that the SERVICE part was supplied in. Your chance of finding an NOS GM #7036569? I'd say "microscopic".
