I just read about a 1963 Corvette mentioned here with both the VIN and engine pad shown.

This is what it says about this 1963 Corvette coupe

    VIN: 30837S114931
Block PAD:3114931 Why is the letter S swapped with the digit 3?

    Engine pad
    PAD: 3114931F0425RF

Why is the S in the VIN a suddenly turned out to the digit 3 on the engine stamp?
Is it because the first digit in the VIN is the digit 3?

Because that was the standard format for the VIN derivative stamping on the block pad - the first digit was the model year, followed by the last six digits of the car's VIN.

Claus, I really doubt you would want a block cast 5 days ahead of your car.

It would be impractical to think that it could be cast, machined and built, shipped from Flint to St Louis and into a car in less that 5 days. If you gather data, that casting date probably wants to be in the earlier months you specified.

Hi Ron -- There are some examples of quick ship and install. One is the second-from-last 1965, #23563, a 300hp convertible. Block cast G-23-5 (a Friday), assembled F0726HF (the following Monday) and installed in one of the final two cars that supposedly passed the "pay point" on Monday Aug 2nd. It's hard not to imagine that engine being lowered onto the frame on Friday the 30th, 4 days after assembly, with the rest of vehicle (body and trim) completed on Monday.

Hi Wayne, the first few or the last couple days of production are one thing, anything goes, but in the middle of a stable production material flow stream, very doubtful.

No i really dont want a block casted a couple of days before December the fifth 63 as my 64 coupe was ready fr shipping that day.
I want it to be one month before the date my car was finnished or what is common for how much older the original block is compared to the date of my car
I suppose a J, K block made in 1963 is perfect for my 1964 coupe?
