    1958 coil spring compression tool

What type of coil spring comression tool works best ? Should I buy the tool that goes inside the spring or one that fits on the outside of the spring?

The one that goes on the inside is the best . On a C1 most of the time you can get by with out it.

Check out the procedure in the3 ST12.
No coil spring tool of any kind is needed to remove or install the springs.

        Brandon,

Search the archives for some good information. A piece of 1/2" threaded rod can be used to compress the spring. It gets installed thru the center of the spring with some blocks on the end.

Indeed I am in the process of rebuild of the front end of my 1954 and using the 1/2" threaded rod and have not had a problem - but as mentioned it may help with a little piece of mind to have a "safety chain" installed on the coil.
          Good luck!

Scroll through here until you find it. I put this together over a year ago.
It will take more time to explain it than it will for you to look at the pictures.

Absolutely! I used a short wire rope sling and made sure it was secured.
