1963 coupe baked in sun find, still there

A while back on a sunday I got a call from a friend that blew his airplane engine.

He landed in a bowling alley parking lot in Pioneer Town, CA.

Myself and some other friends went up to take the plane apart and bring it home and while we were there the owner of the plane told me he saw a corvette like mine while he was roaming around the SMALL town.

I looked for it while every one was having lunch and could not find it so I asked him to be more specific as to where it was and he showed me a pic that he took.

By now I was excited and I moved much faster and he pointed at a fence as I was walking.

There it was and probably still is.

It looked complete and the doors were onen with the hub caps on the rotted seats.

For fear of being shot I went into the building and asked the owner if she knew who owned the vette and she said it was her husbands and he thinks it is worth 30K as is.

It was hard to look at as it was left to rot in the sun. I only looked at it for a few and it was automatic and in ROUGH shape.

The bowling alley at Pioneer Town, CA. Probably still sitting amongst a few other un finished projects.

          Ron,
          you must have been there!

Yes it is a dusty ghost town and I thought the guy was still in shock from the forced landing when he told me there was a vette like mine there.

The sun & dust did a job on the car but we can see thru that and realize the beauty.

I have a 63 & 67 coupe but find that I like the split window look and can't wait to get it off the frame.

OK Ron, That proves it you were there.

One street and no green grass. But looking at a few that were there, I think there was some kind of grass in their ciggeretts.

Interesting turn of events......glad your friend was ok.

I was poking around on Google maps. I got into street view and walked around for a while but couldn't find the bowling alley. I found Pappy & Harriets Palace(hotel)Map here and in their directions they mention they're near the bowling alley.

Town Website below. It sure is a dusty ghost town. I read it was built as a movie set many years ago. More info here.....

I looked around too, but can't see any easily identifiable Corvette from above using Google Maps, street view or Bing Maps.

You have to look between the ruts in those streets! Dom, you sure you just didn't make a wrong turn coming out of Vegas

That is one dust town, been to similar places that google earth hasn't been to yet and they look the same.

                          Ron,
                          The rut is right.

But to you other guys Pappy & Hariets is a lizards walk away from the bowling alley.

Google a vette? In this town all you get is giant rocks.

You have to call the owner of the bowling alley (wife) and I think she wants it gone but HE, him may be big and tell wife 30K.

If you zoom to max overhead view on the map, I see what appears to be a car in the fenced in area near the lower left of the big building. Cannot see a split window though.
Dom.... is that the area that you saw it?

                              Rich,
I looked at the map and see what looks like the bowling alley and large building that the vette was behind.

Why it was outside beats me as I think they own the large building.

If this helps it faces the only paved road that led in & out of town.

In the views everything looks paved but they were not.

Why don't you find the bowling alley/BAR and give her a call. She was glad to get the puplicity when the plane ended up in her parking lot and she may give you the time of day.

I would lead with that, (the plane) and she may open up.

When I bought my barn find 1963 coupe in 1971 I stored it in our lot and
every body bugged me. I had to move it and cover it so I could eat dinner and not take phone calls.

Also the thiefs got a few parts before we cought them.
