    65 Flasher Question

On my 65 I have the flasher that plugs into the fuse box but there is suppose to be one attached in a clip on the left radio side cover. Why should the car have two flashers? I do not have emergency or 4 way flasher. Remember I am assembling from scratch so never had anything original to look at. Thanks, Mike

    Re: 65 Flasher Question

    Michael,
Not sure why they dont mount it on the fuse panel. Perhaps a big footed drivers shoe might hit it when the clutch is pushed in. My fuse panel is chipped as you can see. I have no idea what would have caused that but the replacement panels dont have the correct markings on them so I cannot change it.

Anyway I have attached photos of the flasher and fuse panel of my 65.
    Cheers,
    Gary

      Re: 65 Flasher Question

Thanks for the response Gary. I have all new wiring harnesses and have my flasher plugged into the RH top of the fusebox. I have installed the bracket on the LH radio side cover as yours is but I really can`t find a wire that would plug into a flasher in that location. It could be there as I am not quite through installing all the parts yet (clock, radio etc). Why would a car without 4 way flashers need 2 flashers? Yours must work with one. Turn signals are the only thing I can think of that it would be used for. I am sure there are plenty on here that can tell us why there should be two. Thanks, Mike

        Re: 65 Flasher Question

Mike - I just checked the Fuse Panel on a 66 Corvette wiring harness which is basically the same as a 65 and there are no connectors or wires attached to the spaces in the upper right corner of the Fuse Panel. If those spaces are not blank and are live, it sounds like the Fuse Panel is for a 67 which would have the connections for the Hazard Flasher in that location. Pete

My 65 AIM schematic drawings shows the flasher on the fuse panel as below.
However on the physical layout drawing it shows the flasher clipped to the radio side panel.
Anyway the wires are purple and brown.

Thanks Pete and Gary, I will crawl back under there and make sure about the wiring and also if the box has terminals in it. The flasher plugged in fine. Mike

              Re: 65 Flasher Question

Gary and Peter, the mystery is solved. Gary I went under the dash tonight in search of the purple and tan connector for the flasher. Sure enough it was there not hooked to anything. I removed my flasher from the fusebox along with its capacitor and it was plugged into two holes with no terminals inside. I wondered why it wouldn`t blink. My eyes are not as good as they use to be and just to get this 290 lb 6 ft body down there is a task in itself. Pete I got your switch installed and it works great. Thanks to both of you!
