    '68 TI wiring harness routing

I have several '68 radiator supports---small block, big block, with and without air conditioning, and with and without transistorized ignition.
It is my belief that cars equipped with transistorized ignition had a "extra" hole drilled into the radiator support to accommodate the TI wiring harness.
Please see photo below. The "extra" hole I'm referring to is the large (lower) hole that is missing the rubber grommet. Photo is of the left (driver's side) of the radiator support, looking from the front.

I think this hole was added after the original stamping of the support because there is a "burr" on either side of this "extra" hole. None of the other holes in these supports have burrs.

I'm thinking that this hole was "drilled" as needed, either at the manufacturer, or on the assembly line?

    Any input, thoughts, knowledge?

On another note, I'm looking for a photograph of a block heater "plug" installed into a '68 radiator support.
I have such a photo somewhere, but have not located (on a floppy--oh my).

    Thanks,
    George

    George:

My February-built 68 (originally L71) has the lower large diameter hole also. The hole is fitted with a grommet, so I can't feel easily for a burr.

      George,

My Dec '67 built '68 has just the large hole with the grommet. I think the hole was large enough to get everything through and no additional hole was necessary. Also, just found that the TJM states the TI wiring harness follows the same route as the vacuum hose and wiring harness through the radiator support.

Interesting: we have these supports with and without the lower hole.

Looks like the K66 page in the 68 assembly manual says to drill a hole at an existing dimple. Mine has the hole, so I can't comment on the existence of the dimple.

              Interesting.
I have two '68 supports without the "extra" hole---one has a very small dimple, and the other does not. I have no idea what production number either of these supports were from.

The dimple (as best I can measure) is in the "correct" position to be used as a guide for the "extra" hole.

Do you have K66 Transistorized Ignition)?

Yes. Sorry, I should have noted that.

And, is this lower hole where the TI harness passes through the support on the way to the amp?

                      Thanks,
                      G.

Yes. correct. All other vacuum and electrical pass through the top hole and both holes have plastic grommets.

                          George:

It sounds like Jack's car is configured identically to mine.

On my car, the TI pulse amplifier was mounted immediately adjacent to the lower hole.
