I rcd my new exhaust system today from Corvette Central for my 66 and was very disappointed in the many and deep indentations in the bends from one end to the other. Also one muffler has two dents in it even tho they were packed very well. That leads me to think they were dented before shipment. The boxes around the mufflers had no marks on them. It's too bad someone out there can't make these exhaust systems correctly-I know it has been beat to death before.

I can tell you this: GM SERVICE mufflers, when they were available, almost always had a dent or two in the muffler shell. I don't know why but that's the way it was.

Joe, Does this mean I can look forward to judging credit for the dents instead of point deductions?
I would think it very likely that over the counter service parts could very easily get dented in the handling and shipping from GM to the dealers parts dept.

The vast majority of the SERVICE mufflers were supplied in boxes. However, the mufflers were not delivered to PRODUCTION this way. They were supplied in bins or racks. There was much more chance for dents this way. In fact, I think you'd find that mufflers supplied as original equipment on Corvettes had the small dents and dings, too.

You need to take up this problem with Corvette Central. They are a reputable company and supply the Corvette hobby with many parts that cannot be found else where on this planet.

Offering a different perspective, I couldn't be happier with the construction, fit and finish with the welded system I purchased from CC. It came in two large boxes and fits my 63 with the deep seat wells perfectly. Installation was a breeze and the tips centered as factory through the rear valance. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their systems.

50% deduction, not a bad deal when you consider that the Gardiner systems aren't perfect either and still warrant a deduction. I've installed a few CC systems and have zero complaints as to appearance, fit or finish. In fact, I've even been to their place about 10 years ago and watched them make the systems.

Regardless whether they were typically dented when new, or not (I'm sure they were), CC's desire to make Russ a satisfied customer is impressive. I surely would not hesitate to buy from them after seeing this post.

I purchased a complete exhaust system from Gardner several months ago. In my opinion (and that of my resto shop), the reproduction and attention to detail by Garnder is impeccable. My 67 small block had the very rare "off road exhaust" option. Gardner hit a bullseye with the finished product.
