    Mike,
The rod on my 62 is about 9.5 inches.

      Mike:

I get 18-1/8 for my '59. It is original. It has a slight bend in it.

      Bill

(It will go over-center by design if it's not hooked up to the clutch.)

        Mike,

Have several and you are welcome to one if needed. They are 9 3/8" from hole center to the end of the threaded rod. My rods came from GM.

guys: my question refered to the rod that runs from the clutch pedal arm down thru the firewall to the bellcrank. mike

Mike, did you use a finger or diaphram clutch? The diaphram type if there is too much throw can over center and sit on the floor.

                Mike,
I measure about 18". 6" from the Z bar to the firewall and 11" from the pedal to the inside firewall. Firewall about an inch thick. This is on a 62 w. the original rod using a three finger Ft Wayne clutch.

Irrespective of length, I believe it's easy to tell the two apart. The 55-58 rod is completely straight and has a 90 degree bend on one end. I believe the 59-62 rod has about a 5 degree bend near the center of the rod and has eyelets on either end.

joe: you're absolutly correct as i've been working on the clutch problem all morning. i took the 56 clutch rod and compared it to the 62. the 62 has a female on each end of the rod and the 55-58 have a female on one end and a male on the other so they can't be interchanged without fabrication. my problem was the clutch pedal wouldn't return to the engaged position after i shifted gears. i discovered the rubber stop on the clutch/brake pedal assembly was way too thick. i sliced it down about 75% and got it working. thanks guys, mike
