    C1 1958 window stuck

The driver's door window on my 1958 convertible suddenly became stuck and won't roll down at all (even with jiggling the window and applying some pressure). The window has a manual regulator. I removed the door panels and can't see anything obviously wrong from a visual inspection. Any suggestions? Thank you.

There are many things that can cause this. The regulator mechanism could be bound up and needing rebuilt. One of the tracks (vertical and horizontal) could have become misaligned causing it to bind. Roller wheels on the bottom of the window frame could be broken, jammed, or broken off. Other possibilities will need to be looked at. Now that you have the door panel off, take the access plate covers off (two of them) and see if you can find the trouble. Have plenty of penetrating oil and white lithium grease handy. If all looks free, then your regulator gears are toast. Simply put, there is no one reason for the window to freeze up. Start with the easy stuff and move slowly towards the more severe. Good luck.

It goes without saying, go easy with trying to move things to free them up. The window glass can torque pretty easy and break. Good luck.

the last two cars that I have been involved with, turned out to be fuzzies, was able to roll window down by spreading the door with my finger tips

Don, I suppose that is a possibility as well, but it sounds like the window doesn't want to go up or down, The fuzzies would only effect the window going up wouldn't it? Let's see if Kevin can give us a little more information. I would also suggest buying a 1953-1962 Servicing Guide (available on this site). This book with original "how to" pictures has helped me out many times.

It could be a number of things as mentioned above.

I had s similar problem and it was the felt material inside of the rear guide. It was worn and started to tear and roll. Eventually it bunched up enough between the glass frame and thee guide to fully bind the window.

I loosened the guide and used needle nose pliers to pull out the bunched fabric until I replaced it a few weeks later.

I've run into that problem, the window rolls up past the stop and gets hooked to the bottom of the window frame, stick your fingers in between the glass and the inside of the top of the door like Don said

Having just completely rebuilt my 62 door internals this painfully sounds familiar. In addition to the previously mentioned items, check to be sure the window frame bottom track has not been brought up past the little stop that attaches the upper window bumper that is supposed to stop the vertical travel.
