    Hypothetical Question

If money and space were not of consideration, what Corvette would you buy today? And furthermore, why?

Did you lust after it when you were young?

Was it that fateful ride with a friend?

Is it the one that got away?

While we all could go on to say a 67 L88 or one of the 5 original Grand Sports, I have to assume there would be other Corvettes that are rather insignifigant by comparison. All the while, noteworthy.

I will start off by saying, my Fathers car. My Dad purchased a 67 400hp coupe from the original owner in 1974. Goodwood Green, OM, unhit, well documented. My Dad still has the car today. I grew up with this car and after all is said, this is the car that made me lust after Corvettes. BTW, happy Fathers Day to all!

Any Grand Sport. Why? It's the Corvette GM should have built...light, powerful, fast.

2nd choice? Any 1963 coupe. Why? They just look so kewl.

                  Aside from the dollar value....

I think one of my all time favorites is a black/black 65 396 coupe with KO's and side exhaust. There was a picture of a new one in Corvette News at that time. Even better if it were a 66.

But then again, I really like a 425 HP 66 conv without side exhaust too.

And of course, a 63 coupe.

                  Maroon 62?

                  Black/silver cove with red interior 57 2X4?

My first vette was a 56 with a 350hp/327,headers, 4-speed, and 4.11 posi. Fun to drive. Or a newer 62 with the 360hp/327 fuelie, with a 4-speed and posi.

                      Re: Hypothetical Question

I was never a Corvette fan before I owned my first and only one, and then only because I was led kicking and screaming into buying it by a buddy while in the Army. Prior to my being forced in by the threat of the draft, I always had Chevy posts and, why not, on the street and strip with my various Corvette engine equipped sedans, I always got the better of them through 1962 for far less money.

I wanted to continue that with a 63 Biscayne with a 409, but my buddy talked me out of it for the 63 Convertible that I still own. I found that equipping it with the 3.36 posi it would out do most fuelies on the road through 65 with their 3.70's, 4.11's and 4.56's until it began to fly. We were stationed down in the southwest desert so it was the way to go.

The 63 is the most unique in many ways with many firsts. Did I dislike the fake screens on the hood and vents on the sides -NO! Why, because I watched and idolized the Corvette SS on the track at Elkhart Lake driven by Doc Thompson. Those screens and vents were real on the race car and held a special meaning to me. My "Roadster" was the closest thing to the real thing - even the lousy metallic brakes.

It's an intrinsic value thing for me.

                        2) The 1956 Sebring race car

                        4) Any 1953 Corvette

Maybe I'll get there someday, I'm only 31. A 1957 fuelie has been my dream car since 6yrs old, if I ever sell the '56 I have now, it will be to buy a project '57 fuelie. I also love the looks of the 53-55s but I'll probably end up with just a '54 some day.
