After I got your post, I went into the cellar to dig around my tools I bought a long time knowing I'd need them someday. What should I find but a Harbor Freight 1/4" stamping kit. I knew I'd need this someday. Took off the fuel door and hardware. Stamped the "5", and put it back together. Looks very similar to yours. I love it when a plan comes together; I can fool NCRS judges; and, save a couple bucks.
1. As a service to fellow NCRS members with '62s, send me your clip, and I'll stamp it for free. Send me a private email, and I'll send you my mailing address.
2. The Harbor Freight stamping kit is their p/n 35121. It's on sale now for $13.
During judging do they ask you to remove the nut holding the clamp in place? My clamp has the 5 but it can't be read unless you remove the nut holding it in place. Also mine is painted and it is really hard to spot the 5 unless you look real close.
No. That's not one of the items that you have to remove to allow for inspection. But, you're right, with the nut in place it's hard to see the "5." Usually if you tell the judge (and cross your heart and hope to die) that the "5" is truly there, they won't take a deduction.
