    Dash Cluster bulb testing 1963

I am ready to re-install the dash cluster into my friends '63 SWC. My question is what is the best way to test the new bulbs to be sure that they actually work before installing the dash? Many thanks

First, I test each bulb on the bench with a ohm-meter. You can also use a 9v battery.

Then, after I install the bulbs in their sockets, I use a jumper attached to ground. With the light switch connected temporarily, I turn park lights on and touch the ground jumper to each metal socket housing on each inst light bulb. I put a small mark on each one after the test. For the 2-wire plastic bulb sockets, I simply test each function separately using the appropriate switch.....i.e. e-brake, hi-beam, headlight motor up switch, etc.

Doug, Don't use a battery charger. Rich's suggestions are 1st class. When my friend Bill Gilbert goes headlight bulb (lamp) hunting he brings along 9V batteries.
Tip: Make sure you have real deal 257 flasher bulbs and not the foreign made ones. You will be sorry if you don't. Been there. JD

Good idea. It's also a good idea to allow the bulbs to burn for several seconds during the test. Sometimes, new bulbs can have a slight leak that allows air in and this will burn a filiment in about 15 seconds.
        Same for used sealed beams.
