    Correct C2 Wiper Blade Inserts

    Hi;

    I had my '65 judged at the Wildwood Regional recently and took a deduction for the wiper blade inserts... One of the judges mentioned that there was someone out there who was making "correct" reproductions... with the dots molded into the rubber... Someone in Florida as I recall

    Does anyone know who this is and have some contact information?

    Thanks,

    Joel

    Re: Correct C2 Wiper Blade Inserts

    Joel;

    FWIW, I got my last set from John Pirkle (Masters City Corvette) at a car show in Chicago a number of years ago. They were not, of course, their usual products, but rather a show sideline. He had both inserts and holders all of which, he said, were NOS parts. I believe I have seen others offering them at shows, but not as a repro product. I will investigate further and let you know if I find out anything.

    Probably not much help, but at least it moves your thread up for the evening group.

    On another subject; I recieved the "Mother Lode" in the mail today with much thanks. It was like Christmas. More by email later.

      There are repro blade inserts with dots on the market, but they are not correct. As far as I know, there are no correct repros on the market, and you will need to track down an NOS set if you want full judging credit. If you check the archives, I believe I posted pics some time ago comparing the repros with an NOS set.

          Joel - 65 Corvettes could have come with ANCO or TRICO wiper blades as OE. What have you got?????? Pete

            Pete;

            Hi, I have a set original TRICO wiper arms and blade holders.. Picked them up some time ago... What I need are the rubber blades proper... what I have in there now does not have the correct "dots"....

            I will keep looking for an NOS pair and they do show up from time to time... However one of the judges at Wildwood mentioned something about correct reproductions being made these days..

            Thanks,

              Re: Correct C2 Wiper Blade Inserts

              Joel - Thanks. FYI, TRICO was the only manufacturer of all the 63-67 Corvette OE wiper arms but there were 2 manufacturers, i.e. TRICO and ANCO, for the wiper blade assemblies for the 65-67 Corvettes per the Corvette AIM for those years.

              It sounds like the judge might have some info as to where to get the reproduction refills so I'd contact the judge. I'd hope he/she could help.

                Re: Correct C2 Wiper Blade Inserts

                Pete,

                I have been told my some 63 Corvette owners that the 15" ANCO wiper blades are not original equipment but I disagee. There is a photo of a prototype 1963 in Noland Adam's 63-67 restoration book (page 126) that clearly has ANCO wiper blades. My 1963, 1964, and 1965 Chevrolet parts catalogs list GM # 3779741 as the ANCO 15 5/32" blades for 63-65 Corvette (1st design) and list GM # 3866190 for the 65 Corvette (2nd design, I assume) as ANCO 15" blades.

                I assume that the ANCO 3866190 wiper blades are "shiny" and otherwise look exactly the same as the 1966 Corvette ANCO 3888296 "dull" wiper blades. BTW, haven't I sold you a few pair of these "shiny" 1965 ANCO wiper holders? They seem to be quite rare as I believe that they were only used on late 1965 Chevrolet models.

                Anyway, getting back to the 63-E65 ANCO 3779741 "shiny" wiper blades. I had a pair of NOS 3779741 wiper blades that I bought in the 1980's at a swap meet. I ended up selling them to a 1963 Chevrolet owner only because there was absolutely no interest from 63-65 Corvette owners. I still have several very nice sets of 3779741 wiper holders and dozens of NOS 15" ANCO from the same era that are correct for these blades. The 63-65 Corvette owners only seem to be interested in the "shiny" 15" Trico wiper blades with the "dots" on the rubber refills.

                    Dave;

                    You hit it out of the park on your last line. Joel needs the rubber inserts with the dots. They, so I'm told, are the things that are hard to find. I bought a pair about 10 years ago at a show from John Pirkle and paid $35.00 back then.

                      Re: Correct C2 Wiper Blade Inserts

                      Dave - It is p/n 3871085 that is the shiny 15" OE BY ANCO Wiper Blade Assembly used for 1965 and is the equivalent to the p/n 3888296 brushed finish 15" OE BY ANCO Wiper Blade Assembly used in 1966 & 1967.

                      I have to say that the Parts Catalog G/N 10146 listing in the P&A 30, Revised October 1, 1966 for

                      65 PASS., CORVETTE ...... (15 long)(Anco) ..... 3871085

                      is interesting because it has no price information but the

                      66-67 PASS., CORVETTE .... (15 long)(Anco) dull .... 3888296

                      has price information.

                      I checked the 65 Corvette Assembly Instruction Manual and found the only p/n called out in the version of the 65 Corvette AIM I have on UPC 1 ASM, SHEET E2 is p/n 3871085 BLADE ASM and the REVISION RECORD indicates a 8-13-64 DATE.

                      Could it be that the didn't use TRICO Blade Asms on 1965 Production
                      I could resist that comment.

                          Re: Correct C2 Wiper Blade Inserts

                          Pete,

                          My 1965 Chev. Parts Catalog (effective May 1965) and my 1966 Chev. Parts Catalog (effective Oct. 1965) list the following in Gr. 10.146:

                          63-65 CORVETTE (1st design).......(15 5/32" long)(Anco)......3779741

                          65 PASS., CORVETTE ....................(15 long)(Anco)......3866190

                          According to Chevrolet Parts History GM # 3866190 was discontinued and replaced with GM # 3871085 in October 1966.

                          My 1966 Corvair-Chevy II-Chevelle Parts Catalog (effective Jan. 1966) also lists 3866190 for the following:
                          65 ALL (exc. Chevy II)
                          65 Chevy II ( exc. Spt. Cpe.)
                          GM # 3871085 is not shown.

                          I do see that GM # 3871085 is shown in the 1965 AIM and replaced GM # 3830603. GM # 3830603 does not appear in any of my vintage Chev. parts catalogs.

                          I believe that GM # 3866190 is 99% (or maybe 100%) the same as GM # 3871085.
                          I assume that GM # 3830603 is an Anco blade and is the same as GM # 3779741.

                            Enclosed are photos of what I believe to be a 3779741 wiper blade (refill is missing) made by ANCO from a 1963 Chevy II. The 15" rubber refill was marked (or "embossed") "ANCO R PAT - 2782445".

                            This wiper blade was EXACTLY the same as those on an "early" 1963 split window coupe (VIN 1450) that I owned in the late 1980's. I assume these ANCO wiper holders were original equipment on the early 1963 but obviously there is no way to verify that assumption.
