Re: Rarest of the rare on auction
Michael --- I drove; camping along the way. Both my '65s are drivers -- too cheap/lazy to restore .
Here's another 4 shots; there was a NCRS event to coincide with the Laguna Seca races. That 3rd shot shows what I believe to be a special exhaust setup to enable engine tuning in the pits, respecting noise levels.- Top

Bill Mitchell, Joe Pike, Zora Duntov, Jim Jeffords, Auggie Pabst, Doug Hooper, Dick Guldstrand, Tony DeLorenzo, Delmo Johnson, Dave Morgan, Davey Jorden, Ed Leslie, Billy Krause, Paul Reinhart (that is his ORIGINAL #6 Blue 63Z0-6 Tanker in your photo) and many , many other famous racers and Chevrolet people were in attendance.
It was the first event that recognized vintage Corvette Race cars, and we all know where that market is today.
I am very proud that I helped cordinate and produce that event with Steve Earle, Ralph Kramer at Chevrolet and the NCRS.Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Love Rochester Fuel Injection 57-65 cars. Love CORVETTE RACE CARS

I hauled the 67 L88 all the way to Laguna Seca for that event from Illinois. (I stayed in motels along the way though)
We probably met there but didn't recognize each other?
We should start a thread that is dedicated to that 1987 event. I'm sure a lot of our members were there.Last edited by Michael H.; June 20, 2011, 12:25 PM.- Top

Re: Rarest of the rare on auction
I asked because this thread has veered from ZR1 to ZR1 and back to ZR2 with a little LS6 thrown in. It is hard to keep track of what is referred to when general terms are used.
I guess you should ask the car owners if they received a deduction for their non-TFP rear springs. Or maybe one of the chassis judges will speak up here.Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Love Rochester Fuel Injection 57-65 cars. Love CORVETTE RACE CARS

Great pictures. Thanks Wayne. That was an incredible event. Looks like you had a great trip. How many miles round trip?

Re: Rarest of the rare on auction
That car was almost restored back to factory roll out condition. In fact, it was well along in the restoration when I started trying to convince Burroughs that it should be restored back to race condition instead. At first, he thought I had lost my mind but, after a lot of discussion, I was able to talk him into it.
John Braun and I wound up cutting ugly slots in the freshly restored deck lid for the roll bar, just exactly like the original owner Cliff Gotloeb (sp) did in 1967. Burroughs was in shock !! Was funny.- Top
