Guys, I am still working on my 1956. One question that I would like to pose to the forum is whether or not 1956 Corvettes came with a lamp to light the cigarette lighter socket. I bought my car in May of 1967 and it had a lighted cigarette lighter socket. The lamp is mounted on top of the socket. The lamp has a metal guard on it. So far I have not found any reference as to the 1956 models having this accessory. Does anyone know for sure whether or not this was offered? Considering the condition of the car when I purchased it, I find it hard to believe that someone would have gone to the trouble to install something like this on a car as rough as mine was at that time. Thanks in advance! Brooks Glover (2141)

The Assembly Manual (section 12, sheet 11.00, View "A") clearly shows the lamp installation on the lighter housing; however, the latest change on the sheet is in April, 1957, and there were 17 changes before that which are lost to history. Clearly 57's had the light, but an original '56 should tell the story about the 56's.- Top

Re: Cigarette Lighter Lamp on 1956
Mine has it, absolutely untouched in that aspect as confirmed by all prior owners. I even have my original element. Very laste '56 build.
It surprised the hell out of me when I noticed it, I had no idea it even had a light there. I'd never seen that on a car before.

Re: Cigarette Lighter Lamp on 1956
Alexander and John, thanks for your replies to my post about cigarette lighter lamps on 1956 Corvettes. My car is also a late '56 coming off the line around the 13th or 14th of August in 1956. This lamp is shown in the '56 & '57 assembly manual that I have but I am not sure if a change for this possibly came along for the 1957 models or if it was also available for the 1956. It is nice to hear that there is at least one other late '56 with this feature. I still can't find any documentation concerning this. This is not shown in the judging manual. I hope that some other '56 & '57 experts will chime in. Thanks in advance! Brooks Glover (2141)- Top
