    My new 64 Coupe Project

Attached is a photo of my new project. The 64 is my first Coupe. I have cut off the custom nose, the rear whale fin and uncovered the filled side vents the previous owner did a number on the drivers side vent as the picture shows. Also notice the later power brake master and discs. The car was born Jan,10 1964, 327/300 4spd. with PB and PS. The frame is rust free and the car retains many of it's original components. I plan to return it to original. Originally silver blue with dark blue interior.

You did the best move by replacing thewhole font end. I have been patching and replacing parts on my 59 front body for years. I would have saved much work with a new front end.

Roger, I plan to use a semmersheims front end. I will also need to replace the plenum panels as they were cut by the previous owner. the rear taillamp panel has 6 taillights so that will be replaced also along with the flares. Aside from the bad custom job the car really isn't as bad as it looks. The frame is solid and most of the original 64 parts are still on the car. I loved my 59 2x4 car, it now resides in Arizona ,as I still sit in the cold Northeast. This 64 is my 9th but my first coupe. It follows a 59,61,65,66BB,68,71,79,85. To quote my wife I am certifiable. I'll post some more pics in the next few weeks when I pull the body. Gary

Hi Gary, if the frame is ok (not bent or rotted) I would fit the new nose before taking the body off. I do all the body work first, be sure you check the door hinge pin bushings and door to hinge plates (where doors bolt to the hinges). Phil 8063

            Gary,

I like it!!!!!!! Piece of cake!!!!!!

Been around for quite a while and remember when you could not give away a convertible with a BB. They were sitting on car lots all over the place. A thousand would buy you a 67 435HP and the dealers could not move them at that price.

            Love that Coupe!

I think your work will pay off once you get rid of the custom crap. It will be nice to see it as it was born.

Phil, I think your right. I did the bodywork on my 61 first and it was the way to go. The passenger door has a issue where the door bolts to the plates, the drivers side seems okay. Also, this car this car was originally delivered to H.E. Baher Chevrolet in Southern Cal. which may explain the solid frame.
