I will soon be shopping for a original 68 small block hood and was wondering if all 68-72 sb hoods are the same or if there is something different i need to be looking at for a correct 68 hood, didn't some have insulation tabs and some not.

Re: 68 corvette sb hood
There are more differences than insulation. The passenger side hood latch changed in late 1969 (bolt pattern is different) and the location of the hood prop changed in 1972.
Both of these features are illustrated in photographs in previous threads. They might even be among the four or five automatically linked at the bottom of the page4, if you scroll down.Terry- Top

Re: 68 corvette sb hood
68's has 2 hood cable clamps. One in the middle and one off to the Right.
Hope this helps you get the right one and not spend extra $$$ on the wrong hood.

Re: 68 corvette sb hood
Jim------
The easiest way to identify the hoods is as Grant suggests----look for the anchor points for the TWO cross cable clamps. Later hoods have only one.
The hood you need was used from the start of PRODUCTION 1968 through about sometime in October, 1969. Any of these hoods will work for you.
You can also use a later hood, but if you do you have to use the late1969-76 upper hood latch plates and the corresponding cross cable (black sheath). While the lower hood latches can remain the same, the latch bolts have to be changed to the "cone" style (in order to work with the late1969-76 upper latch plates). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
