Could these '62 buckles have been painted new?

    Hi,
Here are pics of the buckles from my fawn/fawn late April 10400 car.
The car was first restored from a nice driver by the PO in '90, I have no reason to suspect that the buckles would ever have been changed.

The covers have been painted or repainted, based on the VIN is it absolutely certain that they would have been unpainted from the factory?
Would the original unpainted finish have been brushed? What about inside the clasps?
If I repaint regardless, what would be the point hit if all else is to spec?
Would the correct labels (4) be "FEDERAL" Pre "Chevrolet"?

    Many thanks,

    Paul

What does the underside of the "flippers" look like? Unpainted forever? Painted in 1961/2? Painted in 1990?
I've never seen painted buckles so late, even on a fawn car, but cannot evver say never.

      Thanks for the reply Mike.
Flippers are painted silver gray on the inside, I'm guessing that they were painted when the covers were painted (or repainted) fawn during the resto in '90?
What was factory finish on the inside?

I know your question is regarding a painted flipper, but I'm curious about the stamping on the buckel backs shown in your pictures. I was under the impression Irvin Airchute stamp or the "810" part number was the expected stamping.

Thanks for the pics John, I see that the flippers on your early car are red on both sides. I gahter that all the painted ones were painted both sides?

Tracy, my car is a late April build '62, the "5000" buckles are the correct ones for my car, the "810's" were pretty much finished by VIN 8000.

As the late Dale P. would say, Were your there when it was made? My #9372 Fawn/Fawn care had the dirty old rusty belt components in the trunk and they were IRVIN stamped, non painted. #52 car is same as the #29 car, painted.
