hello I have a late 67 column part number 7803280 with a date of 178 7. when bench testing the column out of the car you can move the hub about a inch away from the mast of the column with out locking the ring. what is going on. you can see the turn single switch so I know the horn or canceling cam will not work. also should the lock ring have one or two knobs. this one only has one. thanks

Re: 67 tele column questions
Keith,
If I remeber correctly. Thats a bad upper bearing. the 67 upper bearing is part of an assembly, when it seperates/brakes it allows the colum to do excactly as you describe. Need to find an upper bearing assembly.

Re: 67 tele column questions
This is from my 1968 Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual.
You can see a second knob on the locking ring. Whether this is the same for 1967 - you would think so.
Doc Rebuild lists the following:
67 Tele Lock Ring Chrome 2821207
68 Tele Lock Ring Black 2821210
So two different rings 1967-68. But no indication as to both of them having two knobs.
