    seminar question

I've been in contact with Lance to possibly hold another seminar this year at Corvette at Carlisle.

My question to those who attended last years steering box seminar is what would you be interested in attending, a trailing arm or differential seminar?? I would be happy to do one or the other and figure it would take an hour or more to cover things. This would be based on how I build things as well which is unlike most out there.

I would like to hear any feedback on this so if we go forward I have some samples of builds to bring with me.

    Thanks
    Gary

Gary, since the average guy doen't have the tools to correctly set -up and rebuild a rear end, I would say the trailing arm would be a better choice. thanks Ed

... and I don't think that the average guy has the tools to correctly set up rear trailing arms either. The correct tools cost as much as a trailing arm rebuild so I haven't yet seen the need to buy them. The 2 sets I've sent out haven't been worth redoing myself even though I've done a lot of various parts on a Corvette.

Either one would be educational even if those in attendance never do the procedure.

I will be holding a seminar on Trialing Arms. If car owners are interested I'll post up the schedule once I know. I'll bring a used arm to break down and show the parts and common areas where I find mistakes.

I would go for either one..since I have done many of both..had great success to this point..but I don't do it for money..lol..I just got alot of good friends!!!and I enjoy it.. I know I don't do the builds as good as you..but I plan to learn to make what I do better..I buy whatever I need to do the job..see if you can have some of the bushing stake tools handy..maybe I could buy one of those too!! Look foward to it..ever think about writing a book on how to for real!!

          Thanks

            Re: seminar question

While I personally would rather see you do the diff seminar, the trailing arm would probably be the better choice and interest more people. Hope to see it!

I too would probably be more interested in the diff seminar... mainly because I know little about them and will likely need mine rebuilt soon so would like to know what all you do. Maybe hold trailing arm seminar, but after the seminar or between.. have a couple sample diffs to show what all you do in your rebuilds... answer questions, etc?

One thing I would like to see in a trailing arm seminar is: Once the TA is done - the installation and initial ALIGNMENT good enough to get you to the shop.

Hope to see you all at Carlisle this year.

Steve attended the box seminar last year so I hope this is as well received.

I'm at L116 as well if you have questions or you can always contact me here or email.

The example I'm going to use is made up of part from what I've been sent in the past, they're all bad but great for demos and shows how some of the units are "rebuilt" out there.

Maybe next year I'll go over diff's, super 10 bolts, posi tuning, and the 12 bolt setups. That would be interesting as well and a lot more work to detail.

Rich, the T/A staking tool is one I made from a die so I won't have anymore. Works great too.

                        Gary,

A friend at work asked me a question that I feel I should know, but I don't. I've heard about 10 bolts, 12 bolts, etc. But I don't know what a 66 Corvette has in it. Please enlighten me!

                          Re: seminar question

All 63-82 vettes were 10 bolts, meaning there are 10 ring gear bolts holding the gear to the posi or open case. The 12 bolts are larger, stronger posi cases. They will not fit into a 10 bolt vette diff unless the case and carrier are machined and a special gear used or ground to size. The 12 bolts are said to be 4 x as strong as any 10 bolt.
