    Add-on cruise control question

    Hi all,

I put the Audiovox cruise control in my '60 and the best it does is to rev the engine a bit when I push the button.

    (1) Any idea on why it doesn't set the cruise and work?

    (2) I put the magnet deal around the driveshaft, but I have the Ignitor inside the distributor. Would it be possible to connect it to there and not use the magnet thing?

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Re: Add-on cruise control question

I recently installed a CCS-100 Cruise Control kit on my 59. It advertises as the direct replacement for the Audiovox kit. I did not use the supplied magnets instead I attached the blue wire to the Neg terminal on the coil, also I have a Pertronix dizzy.

Works great, should have gotten this years ago

      Bob,

You might try Jack Panzica. I seem to remember that he put a cruise control on his 66 before he cruised America.

Paul, could you give me the dip switch settings you used?

Joe, How do I contact Jack?

        Thanks,

        Bob

          SW3 OFF
          SW4 OFF
          SW5 OFF
          SW6 OFF
          SW7 ON

            Bob,

Since Jack is signed up on here, it's easy to contact him. Up near the top of the screen, click "Members List", then click "Search Members."

            Good luck!

              Bob,
When you search for Jack P. you search by using his first name then scroll down through to the "P"s.

                Bruce,

There is more than one way to skin a cat with the Members List. You can do it by the first letter of the last name, like you mentioned. Or you can do an actual search, like I mentioned. I searched for "Panz" and only two names came up. Pretty easy even for me to narrow it down from there.

On mine, after a few years of use the unit stopped engaging. Inside the round unit where the vacuum hose connects there is a switch that became corroded with dirt that I suspect came from the vacuum hose. I took the unit apart, cleaned the dirt out with some electronic cleaner, problem solved. Be careful when you take it apart, there are some very tiny o-rings in there that are easy to loose.

Dakota Digital make a great cruise control for cable driven speedometers.
A friend of mine has installed a few and has no problems except it tends to leak a small amount of voltage which will power L.E.D. tail lights when the ignition is off. A relay in the circuit took care of the problem.
