Anyone Know If The Ppg Formula For Sebring Silver ( Base Clear) Looks Close To The Correct 1963 Color ? I Just Mixed Duponts Version And It Is Way , Way Off !

Sebring Silver (like a few others including Honduras Maroon) is one that's almost NEVER blended 'properly' by current lacquer offset formulae. If I remember correctly Gary Mortimer did a LOT of research into the formulation and came up with perhaps the best/closest match achieved in recent years...- Top

I shouldn't post heresay stuff, but anyway............
A long time ago I recall a local Corvette shop owner said that the original Sebring Silver could not be accurately duplicated today because the pigment that gave it the metallic look was not the same as in other metallics. He said there was some mixture of ground up shells in it somehow that made it have an almost pearlescent look in the right glare. Fact or fiction I don't know, but I heard the story repeated several times and never heard it challenged.- Top
