My September build 65 has what I believe to be the original differential. Date is 9 2 64. However, under the fill plug instead of a red tag is a 64 style metal posi tag. Is it common for early 65s to have the 64 style tag?

Re: 65 Positraction Tag
I wouldn't be surprised, Mark. My 014xx car (D6 S-body trim tag) [would have been a Sept 28th car if not for the strike], has differential AP_9_17_64 with the '63-4 style carrier (see pic of nose; threaded front holes for bracket). And the rear cover is the "303" (also associated with '63-4 carriers -- see pic). This cover has the coarse NPT plug (see inside cover shot), not the fine thread normally expected on the '63-4's. Pic of fill hole on another greasy Jan '64 diff, with yellow swoosh, shows both plugs for comparison. I'm thinking that mine might have had the metal tag, like yours.
Say, does your trans have BOTH VIN format stamps (mine has S1014xx and 51014xx) ? Or an overstamp of the S with a coarse font 'S' ?
