Does a 3864480 water pump have the part number stamped on the front whare the fan clutch attaches in all cases? Could it be stamped on the inside? What are other telltale signs of originals and reproductions?

Larry -- from my limited knowledge, some do NOT have the part # stamped; eg. my late 396. [either on the hub under the clutch flange, or on the inside].
I attach eBay pics of one that is original, IMO. Not familiar with repo's, but there's the two weld "BB's" that retain the pressed-on 2nd pulley groove, and the smooth (no belt valleys) visible from the inside (shown in link, below).
